Acrylic on Canvas 2021
‘Dreamtime’ was started last summer at Dromdiah, killeagh, my old home one evening.
I reworked it to give it more of the energy and life that I feel and see in this place, and now I love it. This is capturing the energy. The colours of the everchanging landscape all the sunrises I saw on this view in the mornings, the fog coming up from the sea. the darkness in the evenings.
The life, the energy from all of life there. This one makes my heart sing.
In this work, I wanted to capture the raw energy of the landscape rather than describe it literally. I used bold, layered brushstrokes and a heightened palette to convey movement, weather, and emotion. The surface is worked and reworked, allowing colour to collide and settle, echoing the shifting light, darkness, and atmosphere I experience in this place. It is less about a fixed moment and more about the feeling of standing within the land—its intensity, its depth, and its constant change.
