Description: February, I walked in the woods, I closed my eyes and listened. I drew the sounds that I heard, the birds singing and, the river babbling. I noticed a lighter touch with my pencil and paint and increased use of mark-making. I noticed a connection to the woods, a heightened awareness of the pinks, yellows, and marks in the bark of the trees. When I returned to the studio and painted on my canvas, I saw that the pink dots on the top of the painting are reminiscent of the marks I made while listening to the birds. In this painting, I have painted the life of the woods. I continued this practice, returning to the woods, painting, and sketching and I found more texture and mark-making seeping into my paintings. This is an exciting development in my practice which I want to explore further. I learn so much about myself and my art every time I paint.
